The following GS1 data carriers (barcodes and tags) are used:
GS1 DataBar for Coupons
Printed coupons now contain GS1 DataBar® Expanded and Expanded Stacked barcodes exclusively. The U.P.C. Prefix 5 symbol is no longer to be used in North America as of June 30, 2015. Learn more
GS1 DataBar for Produce and Other Fresh Food Categories
GS1 US recommends that retailers in the business of selling loose produce and processing manufacturer coupons implement point-of-sale hardware and software systems to scan and process GS1 DataBar barcodes and 14-digit Global Trade Item Numbers.
Produce Traceability Initiative
The Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA), GS1 US, the Produce Marketing Association (PMA), and the United Fresh Produce Association (UFPA) recommend supply-chain-wide adoption of electronic traceability for every case of produce. GS1 DataBar for Other Fresh Food Categories: January 1, 2014
GS1 US recommends all other retailers consider preparing point-of-sale hardware and software systems to scan and process GS1 DataBar barcodes and 14-digit Global Trade Item Numbers by January 1, 2014.
