GDSN Package Measurement Standards

Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) Package Measurement Standards (part of the GDSN suite of standards) were developed to help increase accurate package measurements. These standards help you add stability to your supply chain by improving logistics, warehouse management, space management, outbound shipping, new item introduction, financial processes, and customer service.

The GDSN Package Measurement Standards are a GS1 Standards document that include the GDSN Package Measurement Rules. These rules establish global standards to facilitate the measurement of linear dimensions and weights for retail and non-retail products from the consumer unit to the non-consumer level and all intermediate packaging levels in between.

PLEASE NOTE: Rules are often updated with textual and graphic changes intended to ensure improved understanding and implementation of existing and new rules. Always download the latest version of the rules and review the changes to determine if these changes impact the current measurements of your trade items.

GDSN Data Quality Framework

GS1, along with AIM, CGF, ECR Europe, FMI, and GMA have developed a best practice framework for global data quality and a recommendation for the GDSN:

  • A data quality management system to help improve the quality of data as published in the network.
  • An assessment procedure to validate the existence and effectiveness of key data management business processes. This assessment may lead to a compliance statement.
  • An inspection procedure to physically validate product attributes.
