GS1 General Specifications Version 13

Your handbook to the GS1 System of Standards has been updated and is now available. GS1 General Specifications is the master standards document defining how barcodes and identification numbers should be used to comply with GS1 Standards.

Some of the major changes to version 13 are listed below:
  • Healthcare Industry – Two new identification numbers are available: Patient and Caregiver Identification Number and National Healthcare Reimbursement Number.
  • 2D Barcodes – A barcode verification template is now available.
  • Barcode Conformance – Tolerances have been added to the X-dimension and Bar Height in the Symbol Spec tables.
  • Barcode Symbol Specification Tables – EAN/UPC Barcode bar height measurement is now aligned with all other barcode types.
  • GS1 DataBar – Updates to show that GS1 DataBar will become an open standard in 2014.
