Beer Industry

The beer industry has made strides in recent years toward a more visible, secure, and sustainable value chain.

  • On behalf of the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA), with the assistance of the Beer Industry Electronic Commerce Coalition (BIECC), 1SYNC conducted a Beer Industry Readiness Assessment in regard to Global Data Synchronization (GDS).
    • The objective of this engagement was to support the proactive planning of GDS solutions by evaluating beer suppliers, importers, distributors, and retailers regarding logistics, item and price/promotion data collection, invoicing, and other relevant business processes, and to provide a prescriptive implementation roadmap that may be used for a Beer Industry GDS pilot.
    • Distributors were asked to complete an Electronic Technology Capabilities Survey.
    • Brewers, Importers, Distributors, were interviewed.
    • Retailers that have active GDS programs with other product categories were interviewed.
  • A Data Sync Program Pilot was completed to focus on the needs of our specialized, heavily regulated industry. The industry learned:
    • Publishing product information is not enough; pricing & promotion data is critical.
    • There needs to be a working, regional model in place before a nationwide program is implemented.
    • Industry-wide standards need to be adopted
    • The financial and time savings gained plus increased accuracy outweigh the startup and maintenance costs involved.
    • Learning and involvement in the following areas is important: Global Product Classification (GPC), Party Synchronization, Item Authorization, Multi-Source
    • The “Full Truck” scenario needs further study
    • Beer industry solution providers need to be involved and educated

The reports below were complied after the intervews:
