GS1 US unlocks the value of standards for the music, video, and book publishing sectors through the following initiatives:
Music: GS1 XML Business Message Standards are presently being tested as a means to provide standardized electronic communications for the music sector. Industry work groups have identified the unique attributes needed to conduct business and have included these attributes in the global standards.
Video: Major retailers and distributors in the video sector have embraced Global Data Synchronization and are working to implement collaborative commerce using the GS1 System. Collaborative commerce enables retailers, suppliers, and distributors to share information with one another in a standard business language, bringing visibility, security, and sustainability to the value chain.
Book Publishing: The book publishing sector is studying the possible implementation of Global Data Synchronization and the advantages it can bring to trading partners who are able to electronically share information through the value chain. Work groups have also been formed to assist companies with the transition from the U.P.C. barcode to the EAN symbol on books.
Major retailers and distributors in the music, video and publishing industries have embraced Global Data Synchronization and are working hard to have their suppliers join them.
The GS1 standards used in the music, video, and book publishing sectors include:
- Global Trade Item Numbers®(GTIN®) for product identification in the music, video, and book publishing sectors.
- Global Location Numbers (GLN) for identification of companies, divisions, and individual store, manufacturing, or distribution locations in the music, video, and book publishing sectors.
- Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCC) for cases and pallets of products in the music, video and book publishing sectors.
