Guideline for Supporting Verification of Product Identifiers for DSCSA

With trading partner communication vital to support Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requirements, the pharmaceutical industry is working to enable verification of product identifiers for saleable returns, suspect or illegitimate product investigations, exception processing and obtaining a status check.

To support this verification, GS1 and GS1 US collaborated with pharmaceutical stakeholders to develop the GS1 Lightweight Messaging Standard. Designed to support Verification Routing Services (VRS) systems for verification of product identifiers, the GS1 Lightweight Messaging Standard provides a simple, standardized lightweight messaging framework for asking verification questions and receiving actionable information by defining a verification Request message and a corresponding Output Response message.

Download our guideline to learn how to implement the GS1 Lightweight Messaging Standard – including localization query parameters and settings, the OpenAPI schema, configuration and set-up, verification requests, and verification responses.
