Foodservice GS1 US Standards Initiative members provide technical and functional expertise to address key industry opportunities through the adoption and use of GS1 Standards. The initiative’s workgroups bring targeted teams together to develop a variety of implementation tools, educational materials, and industry recommendations in support of the Initiative.

The Joint Product Information and Image Governance Workgroup provides guidance as to how product data and images for items sold in retail grocery and foodservice can be best used and shared between trading partners and transmitted through the Global Data Synchronization Network™ (GDSN®).
Develops industry-specific guidance and recommendations to support enhanced traceability, including implementation of GS1-128 barcodes, Advance Ship Notices (ASNs) and Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCCs) in the foodservice industry.
Collaborates across the two distribution channels to define evolving data quality requirements and develop best practices to satisfy consumer as well as trading partner expectations for rich and accurate information.
With growing interest in the transformative promise of blockchain applications, it has become clear that focused use case discussions are needed to address the future of transparency and data sharing. This discussion group meets monthly to explore challenges and opportunities.
The EPC Extended Attributes Workgroup focuses on simplifying the capture of traceability-related attributes such as Batch/Lot and Date encoded in EPC/RFID tags in Foodservice and Retail Grocery. Members interested in joining are encouraged to reach out to Jon Gregory (jgregory@gs1us.org) by January 27, 2021.
