Foodservice GS1 US Standards Initiative members provide technical and functional expertise to address key industry opportunities through the adoption and use of GS1 Standards. The initiative’s workgroups bring targeted teams together to develop a variety of implementation tools, educational materials, and industry recommendations in support of the Initiative.

Joining a workgroup allows you can get involved, foster broad collaboration, and make a difference—no matter your focus or expertise. As a participant, help identify challenges, explore solutions, and create adoption plans for:
Manages and provides guidance and education for product information and product attributes used for the exchange of product data through the Global Data Synchronization NetworkTM (GDSN) in the foodservice supply chain. Provides a forum for the discussion of new attributes to be added to the foodservice data set. Also monitors GS1 GSMP for changes that could affect implementation and use of the GDSN in foodservice.
Develops industry-specific guidance and recommendations to support enhanced traceability, including implementation of GS1-128 barcodes, Advance Ship Notices (ASNs) and Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCCs) in the foodservice industry.
Facilitates member discussions concerning Foodservice GS1 US Standards Initiative marketing opportunities and strategies to help promote and accelerate the voluntary adoption of GS1 Standards. Activities include various communications programs, case study development, planning of industry events, speaking engagements, social media outreach, and more.
Collaborates across the two distribution channels to define evolving data quality requirements and develop best practices to satisfy consumer as well as trading partner expectations for rich and accurate information.
With growing interest in the transformative promise of blockchain applications, it has become clear that focused use case discussions are needed to address the future of transparency and data sharing. This discussion group meets monthly to explore challenges and opportunities.
