Why use the GS1 Database?
The GS1 Database is a source of truth for barcode lookup and product verification. You can search by GTIN (the number encoded in a UPC barcode), GLN, company name, or other GS1 identifiers.
The GS1 Database allows up to 30 free searches and is used to run barcode lookups for GTINs or GS1 Company Prefixes that can support basic product verification. The tool also allows you to search by GLN, location name, or address, so you can start with the information you have and fill in where you might be lacking. The GS1 Database serves as a reference system that retailers, marketplaces, distributors, and other supply chain partners may use to access accurate information about third-party products and locations.
By licensing a GS1 Company Prefix with GS1 US®, companies are identified as the licensee of that prefix and all associated GS1 identification numbers, as long as the license remains active. Results from queries in the GS1 Database include basic GS1 license and licensee information, product data, and location data for more than two million GS1 member companies across 120+ countries.
This tool is ideal if you want to:
- Check the validity of any GTIN, GLN or other GS1 identifier
- Verify which company licensed a GS1 Company Prefix for a product or location
- Search barcodes, product and location data from both domestic and international companies
- Research basic company information using GS1 product or location identifiers
- Validate GLN assignments and avoid creating duplicates
- Enhance and update product catalogs
- Analyze six (6) key product attributes provided by brand owners in addition to the GTIN: brand name, product description, product image, Global Product Classification (GPC), net content, and country of sale
