TRAKKEY by ENSESO4Food helps us trace fresh food from local farms to kids’ plates—with less effort than we imagined. Leveraging a GS1 Standards-based process helps ensure our implementation can continue to grow and deliver the best meals possible.”
Customer Challenge
Small food hubs and schools faced a significant challenge: They needed a way to trace food from harvest through transformation to meal service—without a large IT team. Ensuring food safety and transparency in the supply chain was crucial, but the resources to implement such a system were limited.
Solution Used
The solution came in the form of GS1 Identifiers including Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), Company Prefixes, 2D barcodes, and GS1 Digital Link. By leveraging these standards, TRAKKEY by ENSESO4Food enabled full traceability across farms, processors, and cafeterias. This comprehensive approach ensured that every step of the food's journey was tracked and documented, providing a clear and reliable audit trail.
Customer Benefits
With the integration of TRAKKEY by ENSESO4Food and GS1 Standards, Spartanburg District 6 and Feed & Seed established a digitally connected supply chain that enables full traceability for raw and value-added local foods—from farm to lunchbox. Spartanburg’s Cragmoor Farms grows produce that is processed at Feed & Seed’s Primus-certified facility into cafeteria-ready items like sweet potato purée and pizza sauce.
This relationship reduces food waste, extends shelf life, and delivers local ingredients to school kitchens in formats that meet menu planning needs. TRAKKEY by ENSESO4Food provides end-to-end traceability, digital inventory, and smart labeling, all while maintaining compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Rule 204.
Spartanburg District 6 serves 11,726 students and 1,664 staff daily. Their farm-to-school model not only meets gourmet-level traceability standards but also strengthens local agriculture and offers students a direct connection to their food sources.
FSMA Rule 204: What It Means for You
FSMA Rule 204 is a federal food safety rule from the U.S. FDA. It requires certain foods—like fresh fruits and vegetables—to be tracked from farm to table using precise digital records.
Why it matters:
- Protect kids and families by finding and fixing food safety issues faster
- Strengthen local food systems with proof of origin and handling
- Build trust with schools, parents, and communities
Even small farms and food hubs can meet FSMA 204 requirements by:
- Labeling food with traceable barcodes
- Tracking every stop from harvest to cafeteria
- Creating a digital record of every step
In foodservice, food safety and efficiency are everything. GS1 Standards help trading partners achieve end-to-end supply chain visibility and consumer transparency.
Local food, safe food, trusted food.
TRAKKEY by ENSESO4Food helps us fulfill our mission: Connect local farms to local tables while keeping food safe, traceable, and rooted in community.”
