Share Locations

As of July 2023, when you create a GLN in GS1 US Data Hub, the GLN is automatically shared with ALL GS1 US Data Hub Location View/Use subscribers, and with the GS1 Registry Platform.

Prior to this date, GLNs were NOT automatically shared with all View/Use subscribers, or with the GS1 Registry Platform. Rather, you had to define the "share" settings for individual GLNs.

You may want to share these previously created GLNs with all Location View/Use subscribers. Take these steps:

1. From the Manage Locations page, decide if you want to share all published GLNs with ALL subscribers, or share an individual GLN with ALL subscribers:

a. To share all published GLNs with ALL Location View/Use subscribers, click the Top Level GLN link to display the Top Level GLN record;

b. To share an individual GLN with ALL Location View/Use subscribers, click the link of a published GLN. The GLN record displays.

2. Click the Sharing tab. The Share page displays in a new window.
If you have shared this GLN with specific organizations, they are displayed under the Locations Shared With heading.

3. Click the Add New button.

The Add New Share screen displays.

Add New button

4. From the "Who are you sharing with?" drop-down, select All GS1 US Location Subscribers.

Add New Share dropdown

Note: If you selected the Top Level GLN, and you want to share all GLNs, check the box for Include all current and future descendant locations. "Descendant locations" are defined as any child GLNs within the GLN's hierarchy. For an individual GLN, you should check this box if you want to share child GLNs within this GLN's hierarchy.

5. Click the Add New button. Then click Continue when the "Confirm Add" window displays. This GLN is now shared with all GS1 US Data Hub Location View/Use subscribers.

Note: If you are not sharing a GLN, a Location View/Use subscriber can send a message within GS1 US Data Hub, requesting access to that GLN.

Q. What if we don't want new GLNs to be automatically shared with all Location View/Use subscribers?

A. You can change this default setting. From the Administration section, click Manage under Share Settings. Uncheck the box for “Share all Published GLNs with GS1 US Data Hub Location View/Use subscribers." Then click Save. Your GLNs will no longer be shared. You have the option of viewing an individual GLN, clicking the Sharing tab, and sharing this GLN with specific View/Use subscribers.

Q. What if we check the box for “Share all Published GLNs..." again in the future?

A. Then this “Share all Published GLN...” setting will take precedence over any “selective” sharing you have set up for a GLN. This means all of your GLNs will be shared with ALL subscribers.
