With consumer demand for product information growing, it’s more important than ever for you and your partners to share accurate, up-to-date product data. The GS1 US Color and Size Codes give you a simple, reliable way to identify and classify your products.
Formerly known as the NRF Standard Color and Size Codes, these supplier-assigned attributes create a common language for color and size across clothing, home furnishing, and many other products.
Provided in a table format in an easy-to-use Microsoft® Excel file, the GS1 US Color and Size Codes can help ensure your product data will be clear and consistent, helping you boost supply chain efficiency and drive sales.
What are the Size Codes?
The GS1 US Size Codes include seven category types:
- Adult Male & Unisex Clothing and Furnishings
- Boys & Unisex Student Clothing and Furnishings
- Juniors, Misses, & Women’s Clothing and Furnishings
- Infants, Toddlers, Girls and Children’s Clothing
- Footwear
- Linens, Domestics and Related Textiles
- Home Furnishings, China Dinnerware and Accessories; Miscellaneous, Linear, Volume and Weight Measurements
Sizes within a category may be assigned to any item within that category. For example, items classified under Juniors, Misses, Women's Clothing and Furnishings, the size "Small" may be assigned to any item within this category, such as a blouse, a handbag, or an accessory. Always check that the item fits the intended table before assigning the code.
Depending on your industry, you can use initial and secondary size fields to map to your existing sizes. As these size codes are not customer facing, sizes can be mapped to closely describe the size you need.
What are the Standard Color Codes for Retail Branding?
The GS1 US Color Codes, formerly the NRF Standard Color Codes, include thirteen colors:
- Beige
- Black
- Blue
- Brown
- Green
- Grey
- Orange
- Pink
- Purple
- Red
- White
- Yellow
- Miscellaneous Assortment
Color code selections are based on the dominant background color of your product. After assigning color codes to an individual Product ID (Style/Model number), you can include this information in your product master data feed, making it easy for trading partners to access and use for merchandising and inventory decisions.
