Class of Trade Definitions

Class of Trade is a classification typically used by the pharmaceutical industry to meet the reporting requirements of Federal and State agencies’ statutory pricing regulations. For example, pharmacies apply Class of Trade codes to classify their organizations, enabling manufacturers to determine how products are to be paid. 

Class of Trade 1 is optional when you select any Industry other than “Healthcare" - and "non-pharmaceutical" options are listed below.

All Class of Trade fields are required when you select “Healthcare” as the Industry. Class of Trade 3 values that display are dependent on the Class of Trade 2 value you select.

Class of Trade 1 Definitions (Pharmaceutical-Related Organizations Only):

CC – City/County

FDV – Federal: DOD/VA

FO – Federal: All Other

FP – For Profit

FPHS – Federal: PHS

NFP – Not For Profit

ST – State

 

Class of Trade 1 Definitions (For Non-Pharmaceutical-Related Organizations):

Holding CompanyA company created to buy and possess the shares of other companies, which it then controls.
Individually-Owned EnterpriseIndividual ownership of business means that a business is owned and operated by a single person.  
Joint VentureA commercial enterprise undertaken jointly by two or more parties which otherwise retain their distinct identities. 
Limited Liability CompanyA limited liability company is a form of a private limited company. It is a business structure that can combine the pass-through taxation of a partnership or sole proprietorship with the limited liability of a corporation.
Not for profitAn organization organized and operated for a collective, public or social benefit, in contrast with an entity that operates as a business aiming to generate a profit for its owners.
Private EnterpriseA business that is managed by independent companies or private individuals rather than by the state.
Representative Office (RO)A representative office is an office established by a company or a legal entity to conduct marketing and other non-transactional operations, generally in a foreign country where a branch office or subsidiary is not warranted.
State-Owned EnterpriseA state-owned enterprise or government-owned enterprise is a business enterprise where the government or state has significant control through full, majority, or significant minority ownership. Defining characteristics of SOEs are their distinct legal form and operation in commercial affairs and activities.
Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise (WFOE)A wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE, sometimes incorrectly WOFE) is a common investment vehicle for mainland China-based business wherein foreign parties (individuals or corporate entities) can incorporate a foreign-owned limited liability company.
